Aragonés's offensive comments about Thierry Henry to José Antonio Reyes were widely televised in October 2004, leading to a £1,900 fine from the Spanish football federation for unsporting conduct. That was upgraded to a racism charge by the government-run Spanish Committee for Sporting Discipline, a verdict which both Aragonés and his employer challenged in the Madrid courts. They ruled in his favour yesterday, with the Spanish federation saying in a statement: "The court found that the Spanish Committee for Sporting Discipline had incorrectly evaluated the evidence.

New local race set to begin long run in June

Thus, with the help of fellow triathletes Ian Linnaberry and John Wadlington, along with city of Loves Park, Winnebago County and state officials, the RockmanTri, a half-Ironman distance race of a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bicycle trek and 13.1-mile run, was born. This means we'll see a few more black movies and documentaries on TV and a few more photos of Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks.Fortunately, I have learned throughout the years that black history is much deeper than the typical, generic displays of celebration that we see during the month of February. This year, Black History Month has a much fuller meaning to me, though. I, like much of black America, have experienced discrimination before. However, almost six months ago the evil head of ignorance peeked through my door and really hit close to home. After my daughter, Taylor, and I moved out of Georgetown to embark on what we call another adventure, I developed an even greater pride in being black in America.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://racism11.blogspot.com/2007/02/think-racism-is-gone-think-again.html' title='Think racism is gone? Nur Ali will make his seventh appearance for his country, racing for the first time at the challenging circuit on the outskirts of Sydney. The Eastern Creek circuit is yet another demanding track on the A1GP calendar. The track is tight and twisting, with changes in gradient which make it similar to the Brands Hatch circuit in the UK, where A1GP will race later in the season. While many of the A1GP drivers and teams have experience of the track from last year's race, Eastern Creek will be another learning curve for Ali and his team. “Unlike Taupo, most teams in the paddock have data and information from last year's race here, whereas it will all be a new experience for us.

Pupils in racism row find new high school

More than 50 West Coast pupils have been accommodated at a new school after they refused to return to Vredenburg High, where they claim to be victims of racism. The pupils have missed out on more than five days of school. They are now being accommodated at Weston High, the only other high school in Vredenburg, which is located in a predominately coloured residential area. But Gert Witbooi, spokesman for Education MEC Cameron Dugmore, said this was a short-term solution. The pupils had been referred to Vredenburg High because of overcrowding at Weston High, which has more than 1 700 pupils and is filled to capacity. Vredenburg High, with 1 110 pupils, has ample space to accommodate pupils. .

Nike Oregon Series Alti Race Watch - WA0027-001

Built based on insights from competitive adventure racers demanding peak performance, the Nike Oregon Series Alti Race is extremely durable, light, and race-ready even in the harshest of outdoor environments. The Ugandan-born archbishop, who last year rejected an invitation to appear on Celebrity Big Brother, compared racism in society with the hospital superbug MRSA in the human body. Snow was falling lightly as the lead teams left Meier's Lake Roadhouse and headed back into the rolling hills south of the Tangle Lakes, race officials reported, but the National Weather Service was warning that could change significantly overnight. The agency posted a snow advisory through 9 a.m. today, warning of 5 to 15 inches and winds up to 25 mph. Race officials said the mushers had snowmachines in front of them to help break trail, but if the snow gets deep -- and particularly if the trail blows in, as often happens on the run from Meier's Lake to Lake Louise -- Steer's 30-minute leader over Sebastian Schnuelle of Whitehorse, Yukon Territory could disappear.

Church leaders seek to 'dismantle racism' for MLK Day

In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, U.S. Christian church leaders urged their congregations to join other congregations in their communities to "discern ways to exercise common witness and common service as together we seek to dismantle racism and, in so doing, to be the voice and presence of God's love in the world." Understandably, having the bow full of water made the trim of the boat terrible and hence we lost any advantage we had over Yendys very early on.''We spent lots of the race with both Yendys and Wot Yot in sight, it was so very easy to see how our overall speed was over the course.

AN ANTI-racism campaign targeting schools is being launched today .

It is hoped that a series of art competitions, organised by Scotland's biggest teaching union in partnership with the charity Show Racism the Red Card, will help schoolchildren explore the issue of racism. NASCAR chief executive Brian France appeared with top executives and a driver from each series for the announcement yesterday. He has worked on this project for two years. The Busch Series, one level below the Nextel Cup, will race on the two-point-seven-mile road track that hosts the Canadian Grand Prix on the Formula One calendar. NASCAR already has Busch events in Mexico and the organization views the move into Canada as a way to expand its reach in North America. In affidavits filed Monday that lie at the heart of a motion seeking a new trial for Christopher M. McCowen, the three jurors said other members of the panel referred to the defendant as an intimidating big black guy and voiced fears that he was staring at them. The affidavits also asserted that one juror described bruises on Christa Worthington, the victim, as the predictable result when a 200-pound black guy beats on a small woman. The remarks prompted one of the jurors who submitted an affidavit to call another juror a racist and almost led to a fight between the two women, who had to be separated, the affidavits said.

Yes, racism exists, and front-page story forces us, as a society ...

Regarding N. The people who committed this hateful crime more than likely were taught that those people were different. Just because you allow those people to sit beside you does not mean you are not racist. Carrigan was reluctant to enter the street criterium at Surfers Paradise on Sunday after just four weeks of training but she didn't want to miss a rare opportunity to compete in front of a home crowd. "If I race I don't want to just roll around and be a number," the Gold Coast-based cyclist said before later confirming she would compete. "It's a tough decision because they're aren't too many races for girls on home soil. "We race overseas all year and we never have a chance for our friends and families to watch us." Almost a decade in exile south of the border has failed to diminish his passion for the streets of his youth. His mum, Kathleen, still lives there, though he reflects that the area has undergone radical changes since he left. The primary and secondary schools he attended, St Theresa's and St Augustine's, have both shut down. The majestic building of St Theresa's church on Saracen Street, where as a devout Catholic he attended every Sunday, has sold part of its grounds to developers. Demolishers have also written off large sections of the area's decayed housing. "I wouldn't have wanted to be brought up anywhere other than Possil, though," he reflected. The race is often called "the toughest 24 hours in motor sports." Reporter James Spring was at mile marker 177 near San Felipe, Mexico. Hundreds of race fans camped out near pit row to watch more than 400 racers battle the desert and the dust for the SCORE-International Baja 1000. It's the world's longest point-to-point race. The 1,000 mile race is open to motorcycles and a wide range of four-wheeled vehicles, including the crowd favorite – the Trophy Trucks. They're massive 700-horse-powered dune buggies that resemble pumped up pick-up trucks. They're known as trophy trucks because their drivers tend to take home the race's top prizes. One was driven again this year by NASCAR star Robby Gordon. The event attracts plenty of star power. Actor Patrick Dempsey of television's Grey's Anatomy, and Micron CEO Steve Appleton also signed on to compete in this year's contest alongside pro and amateur racers. Tim Lawrence of Baja Pits is putting his own time and sweat into this year's race. He's helping fuel and repair all sorts of vehicles. "This is where sports and politics come together," was how Mr. Caborn chose to put it on Thursday when answering questions pertaining to reports of English cricketers Monty Panesar and Kevin Pietersen being subjected to racial abuse in Australia. Mr. Caborn strongly advocated a sustained campaign against racism in sports. "It begins with self policing with people, including politicians, saying we are not prepared to tolerate this. This is totally unacceptable," he said. Speaking in the National Council of Provinces during question time, Manuel said one of the worst things he had seen was a road that was built where the contractors had met the gender and race specifications but had not met the specification of being able to construct the road. The road disappeared within two years. While the minister did not indicate where the road had been, he said the disappearance of the road was not in the interests of the inhabitants of the area who used the road. That would be the 2010 governor's race, because it already is under way and has been for a while. Even before we know the winner of this year's five-way race, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst is off and running for next time, hoping through a display of electoral strength on Tuesday to discourage would-be contenders in the 2010 Republican primary. The only mystery about Dewhurst's re-election race is how deeply he will bury two mostly unknown opponents Democrat Maria Luisa Alvarado of San Antonio and Libertarian Judy Baker of Houston. Yet, in recent weeks, he has spent more than $3 million on television advertising more than some gubernatorial candidates and several hundred thousand dollars on slick mailouts, presenting himself as a protector of children who will crack down on sexual predators and improve the public schools.

Tiatto denies racism claims

Australia's Danny Tiatto has denied racially abusing Senegalese midfielder Salif Diao while playing for Leicester against Stoke in the English Championship. Thorpe withdrew from the Games with bronchitis but was eventually diagnosed with glandular fever and has been unable to resume his regular training load due to the lingering symptoms of the energy-sapping virus. His coach Tracey Menzies said yesterday they were now debating which single event he should target after such a severely disrupted preparation. Thorpe had initially intended to swim the 100m and 200m freestyle, as he did successfully at the Commonwealth Games trials, but Menzies said she was concerned that the workload would be too much given his fragile health.

Jews embrace Borat's role as crusader against racism

TORONTO -- Borat Sagdiyev, the fictional character at the centre of the new comedy Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, is ridiculously anti-Semitic. The movie, opening today, features a "running of the Jew" segment back in Borat's home village in Kazakhstan that would be astonishingly offensive if it were not so ludicrously funny. On the Comedy Network's Da Ali G Show, Borat once took to the stage at a country and western bar in the southern United States and performed a song called Throw the Jew Down the Well as the rednecks sang along and cheered. Yet far from being outraged, some of the most creative and powerful Jews in Hollywood are big fans of the film -- including Larry David, Garry Shandling and Larry Charles, the legendary Seinfeld director who also directed the Borat movie.

Johnson finally takes lead in Chase race

FORT WORTH, Tex. - For the first time in three years, Jimmie Johnson isn't playing catch-up in the final two races in the Chase for the Championship. His second-place finish Sunday in the Dickies 500 at the Texas Motor Speedway, coupled with Matt Kenseth's 12th-place finish, moved Johnson in the points lead heading into next Sunday's race at Phoenix.
