New local race set to begin long run in June

Thus, with the help of fellow triathletes Ian Linnaberry and John Wadlington, along with city of Loves Park, Winnebago County and state officials, the RockmanTri, a half-Ironman distance race of a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bicycle trek and 13.1-mile run, was born. The race, which will amount to the longest set-distance event in the area, is set for Sunday, June 10, at the Olson Lake area of the park. Entries have been open since the first of the year and Griffen said more than 100 entries representing nine states and Canada already have been received. We already have several people who will be doing this as their A race for the year, Griffen said, but we also have some people who will be doing it as a precursor for competing in Ironman Lake Placid or Ironman Madison.
