Pupils in racism row find new high school

More than 50 West Coast pupils have been accommodated at a new school after they refused to return to Vredenburg High, where they claim to be victims of racism. The pupils have missed out on more than five days of school. They are now being accommodated at Weston High, the only other high school in Vredenburg, which is located in a predominately coloured residential area. But Gert Witbooi, spokesman for Education MEC Cameron Dugmore, said this was a short-term solution. The pupils had been referred to Vredenburg High because of overcrowding at Weston High, which has more than 1 700 pupils and is filled to capacity. Vredenburg High, with 1 110 pupils, has ample space to accommodate pupils. .
